Wow, this is a great DVD player. The up-converting on DVDs looks fantastic, way better than what our TV does. And there are a ton of great features, such as it will remember where you're at on a disc even after switching over to another disc in the tray and then switching back. Then there's the instant replay feature, which lets you jump back a few seconds to catch some missed dialog. And it must be buffered, because I don't notice any disc seek delay when doing this. Then there is fast play, which speeds up the movie a bit, with sound, so you can get through those boring scenes quicker. On the flip side, there's slow play, for... I don't know, maybe so that the kids' DVD will last a little longer giving you more time to rest. This player is also about half the height of our previous 5-disc player, giving more room in the stereo cabinet. The only downside so far is that the remote doesn't have buttons to access each disc slot like our previous one, it just has a Disc Skip to move to the next one. Our previous player was a Sony as well, and the remote for it still works with the new player, so we just programmed the buttons into our universal remote. Oh, and the only other thing is that when up-converting is in progress, a blue light on the front of the player is illuminated. It was a tad distracting at first, but we got used to it pretty quick. Otherwise, just put a little piece of electrical tape over the light. Anyway, to sum up, this is a great DVD player, definitely worth getting.

Store hours upon hours of entertainment in Sony's DVP-NC85H/B five-disc carousel changer. This versatile unit plays DVDs and a variety of older disc formats, such as VCD and SVCD, as well as your favorite music CDs. And since the unit supports HDMI connections, you're sure to get the best picture possible. pbHDMI Compatible/bbr High-Definition Multi-media Interface (HDMI) is an interface format that provides uncompressed digital audio and video directly to a digital television. It represents the current state of the art in high-definition video and sound because the information never has to be converted into an analog format. Another benefit of HDMI is that it puts all that information into one cable and one easy-to-use connector./ppAn added benefit of connecting the DVP-NC85H/B to your set with HDMI is that the unit can "upscale" commercial DVDs, which are rendered at 480p resolution, to a digitally interpolated 720p resolution, which makes for a much sharper picture./ppFor analog sets, the DVP-NC85H/B includes a 108 MHz 12-bit digital-to-analog converter for sharp picture and clear action. It features composite, S-video and component video connectors, as well as optical digital, coaxial digital, and RCA analog audio outputs./ppbPrecision Cinema Progressive/bbr While other DVD players detect image changes at the scan line level, Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the pixel level. This makes the picture more faithful to the source--whether film or video--because the technology uses separate, optimized algorithms to handle the differing pixel behavior. It also uses separate algorithms to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are virtually free from motion artifacts./ppbPrecision Drive 3 System /bbr Sony's DVP-NC85H/B delivers excellent picture and sound quality--even from damaged discs. How? The unit's Precision Drive 3 system allows you to playback some DVDs that may have been damaged or warped without a degradation of picture quality. This feature comes in handy when watching rentals or other heavily used discs./ppbMP3 and JPEG File Playback/bbr The DVP-NC85H/B plays MP3 sound files and JPEG photo files. Simply insert the disc and use the remote control to navigate through your folders to your files./p 5 Disc DVD Changer with HDMI Connectivity for HD Ready TVs

Sony DVD/CD player with no frills - Harold R. Demmon - ALAMEDA, CA United States
This is a no frills DVD/CD player. I have one in the house to play DVD's CD's in a second bedroom.br /I bought this one (used) for less than a hundred dollars. I use it in my garage workshop. I wantedbr /to play CD's there and could not justify the expense of a Bose system. It is plenty adequate. The onlybr /thing, I wish it had the ability to shuffle play the CD's.
